Description:
2nd-thought is an Adware agent that frequently comes bundled to so-called free applications. In order to offset the costs of software development, less scrupulous companies include advertising agents with their applications, tricking the user into accepting them by including small, admittance phrases in the End User License Agreement. 2nd-thought is a Browser Helper Object (BHO) that doesn't initially show up in the Browser. Instead, it tracks a user's Web habits behind the scenes, using the data that it gathers to facilitate targeted popups.
One of the popups in particular is meant to appear as an aid to web surfing or shopping. When users submit queries to some search engines, the BHO launches a window that asks if they want a second opinion on their search. The implication is that by clicking the message, users can gain access to a wider range of searching parameters, and thus get better deals and greater choices. In reality, clicking the message simply installs an additional BHO in the form of a toolbar. One toolbar that is known to be an affiliate of Second Thought is the MySearch toolbar. Secondary BHOs like this also track browsing habits and display popups. Additionally, toolbars similar to MySerach are known to hijack search queries and homepages, aiming them both at affiliates.
The motive behind this kind of Adware proliferation is simple: the more ads that can be accommodated, the more business for companies like 2nd-thought. If the program can divide the advertising work in two – using both a visible and invisible BHO – then the user is less likely to remove both.

How did 2ndThought get on my computer?
Wondering how 2ndThought was able to infiltrate your defenses and infect your PC? You're not alone. Millions of users become infected with 2ndThought each and every day.
The most common reason for becoming infected with 2ndThought is a lack of advanced anti-spyware protection. These are just a few of the ways spyware can infect your PC:
1. P2P (Peer-to-Peer) Networks
P2P networks have become increasingly popular over the years. As P2P popularity has increased, so have the risks associated with using these networks. When you install a P2P application or download a file from a P2P network, it is not uncommon for spyware to be bundled in with the files and the software.
2. Freeware and Shareware
Many computer users discover the hard way that freeware and shareware aren't really free at all. Many of these "free" applications come bundled with spyware, which may very well be how the application ended up on your PC.
3. Malicious Websites
Not all websites are innocent. In fact, some are designed with malicious intent. If you visit one of these websites, spyware may automatically install on your hard drive without your knowledge or consent.
Quick Fix: Download AntiSpyware 2009's spyware scanner and expose all of the spyware lurking on your PC.
There are dozens of anti-spyware applications being marketed to consumers. Unfortunately, many of them do not work. Rely on a name that is trusted by many of the industry's top experts. Use AntiSpyware 2009's spyware scanner to detect spyware and to check for updates on the latest spyware threats.

Spyware Symptoms
There are a number of telltale signs to look for that can indicate when spyware has infected your PC. Knowing and understanding these spyware symptoms can help you reduce the amount of time spyware spends on your system and the amount of damage it can do to your computer. Here are just some of the potential spyware symptoms your computer may exhibit:
Annoying Pop-Up Advertisements:
Almost everyone experiences one or two pop-ups every now and then, but if you're getting more than your fair share of pop-up ads, then spyware may be the culprit. Many unwanted software applications, such as spyware, will cause frequent occurrences of pop-up advertisements on your desktop. If you notice an increase in the number of pop-up ads you receive, you may be infected with spyware.
Changes in Internet Settings
Many spyware applications have been known to change a user's Internet settings without their knowledge or consent. To make matters worse, if you try to change your settings back to the way they were before, spyware can just change them back again. If you notice that your search page or homepage settings have changed without explanation, spyware may be the reason.
Unwanted Web Browser Components
If you notice additions to your Internet browser that you do not remember downloading or installing, spyware may be the reason. Many spyware applications add search toolbars and other BHOs (browser helper objects) to your Internet browser without your knowledge or consent.
Decreased System Speeds
It is very common for computers infected with spyware to experience decreases in speed and performance. This is because spyware often uses a computer's system resources to execute malicious operations. This creates a drain on your system and will result in slower Internet speeds and overall decreases in PC performance. If you notice a sudden change in the performance of your computer, it may be infected with spyware.
If you have reason to believe that your computer has been infected with spyware, it is highly recommended that you use AntiSpyware 2009's free spyware scan to detect any spyware files.

What is a Adware?
On TV there are commercials. On a computer, there is adware, programs that advertise for things unrelated to the featured site.
Given this definition, it's not hard to realize there is benign or even (arguably) good adware. These programs manifest as advertising blocks on certain websites that allow that domain to be free for the host and/or the service to be free for the user.
Some adware is just as benign, but its instillation skirts an ethical borderline. These adware programs will come bundled with other software but won't state their presence upfront. Sometimes the agreement to post ads will not appear in the download wizard, and sometimes it will only appear buried in the End User License Agreement (the long I Accept contract that few read in full or not at all.)
Finally, there is adware that is undoubtedly malware. This variety is installed unwittingly by a user or comes secretly bundled to another program. The secretive nature of this adware thus gets it categorized as a type of Trojan. These are the most notorious. They do things as invasive as hijacking browser windows to steering you to websites or unspecified homepages. The most well known of this type is the classic popup, an unrequested ad that flashes over other windows. Not only are these types of adware frustrating, due to the unscrupulousness of their installation, these programs often don't come alone and are accompanied by other forms of spyware that monitor your web use.
